Bertha Mae Homer, 102, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2026.
Born in the Bayou LaCroix community of Hancock County, Mississippi, Bertha was a lifelong example of faith, hard work, and devotion to her family. She graduated from Kiln High School on May 2, 1941, and later worked for East Jefferson Water Works in Metairie, Louisiana. Throughout her life, she found joy in gardening, fishing, crocheting, canning, and especially cooking for her family, creating countless cherished memories around her table.
Bertha was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where her quiet faith and loving spirit were evident to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sylvester Ladner; her mother, Laura Ladner; her beloved husband, Martin J. Homer Jr.; her great-great-grandchild, Justice Steber; her brothers, Ervin Ladner, Chester Ladner, and Vernon Ladner; and her sisters, Helen Ladner, Erma Pecoul, and Jean Garriga.
She is lovingly survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Martin J. Homer III and Victoria B. Homer; her sister-in-law, Elaine Ladner; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Odom, Martin Homer IV (Christina), Gregory Homer (Ashley), and Jason Homer; ten great-grandchildren, Caitlin Furey (Ryan), Madeline Ladner (Bradley), Brooke Norris, Jordan Norris, Gavin Odom, Austin Homer, Mikaylah Homer, Jayden Perry, Alexia Homer, and Hannah Homer; and six great-great-grandchildren, Jaice Steber, Kyler Furey, Ellianna Furey, Charlotte Marek, Evelyn Ladner, and John Kayce Furey. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 AM, Saturday, July 11, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1911 McLaurin St., Waveland, MS 39576. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Bayou LaCroix Cemetery, Bay St. Louis, MS.
Bertha's legacy of love, faith, kindness, and dedication to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
