Benjamin “Benny” Leroy Harper, age 89 of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marguerite Harper; his parents and his siblings.
Mr. Harper is survived by his step daughter, Patricia Ramirez; his step grandchildren, Mason (Jeannie) Sturtevant, Christina Gonzalez and Chastity Spratt.
Born and raised in Biloxi, Benjamin was a proud graduate of Biloxi High School. He honorably served his country in the United States Army for two years, followed by four years of dedicated service in the U.S. Army Reserve.
After completing his military service, Benjamin returned to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where he helped construct the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. He later joined the Coliseum's maintenance department, where he worked faithfully for many years until his retirement.
Benjamin had a lifelong love of music. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica and performed with a local band. During retirement, he found great enjoyment on the golf course, spending many happy hours playing the game he loved.
Benjamin will be remembered for his generous spirit, kind heart, and willingness to help others.
Graveside service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Biloxi National Cemetery.
