Beartice Jewel Bennett Banks born to the late Earvin Earl and Eva Gertrude Bennett on June 15, 1933 in Jasper, AL passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in Gulfport, MS.
In 1950 she married Cary Banks, now deceased, and moved to Chickasaw, AL. She attended the University of South Alabama where she studied Home Interior Decorating. She worked for International Paper Company in the Bag Pack Division, Brookley and Hancock Banks, Naval Construction Battalion Center as a Key Punch Operator, and Noitons Florist. Because of her love of flower designing and at the request of her mother, she and her sister established Bennett Bouquets, Janet and Jewel's Florist, Inc. in 1981 and where she retired from in 2009.
Jewel leaves behind a daughter, Judy Ann (Mike) Martin, and a son, Gary Lee Banks; her dear sister that she raised and loved like one her children, Janet Bennett Hargrove; her two granddaughters, Rebecca (Wayne) Herron, and Carol Leighann (Nathan) Brown; her grandson, Chris (Carol) Banks; her seven great-grandchildren; and her dear friend and sister-in-law, Jackie Banks McCauley.
She will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
