Barbara Tapp

Mrs. Barbara Joan Tapp, 84, of Gulfport, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in Gulfport surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Gulfport, MS on July 16, 1933 to William Townes and Lillian Mae Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harry L. Tapp; her parents; her brother, William T. Walker Jr.; and one grandson, James Culpepper.
Mrs. Tapp was a loving wife and mother that devoted her life to the ministry. She supported her husband's ministry as a pastor for 45 years until his passing at which time she continued with her work in the church.
Mrs. Tapp loved music and served as a piano player throughout her ministry for over 50 years. She has been a member of Campground Baptist Church since its creation in 1991 where she filled countless roles, most prominently as piano player and adult Sunday School Teacher.
She has counseled and advised too many to count.  She served as clerk to the Ten Mile and Hobolochitto Association of the BMA for many years. She also served as Historian for the WMA for many years and was a faithful member of the Grace Memorial Baptist Ladies Bible Study group.
She is survived by two daughters, Joan Purchner (Darrell) and Beverly Griffin (Richard); four sons, Richard (Ginger), James Carter (Vicky), Raymond Neil (Teresa), and Phillip (Donna); fifteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, John Walker; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Campground Baptist Church from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. for friends. The funeral will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2018 with a visitation at 10:00 and the service will start at 11:00 in the church with burial to follow in Finley Cemetery, Gulfport.
