Audrey Powell, a cherished member of her community, passed away on August 24, 2025, in Bay St. Louis, MS. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Audrey embodied kindness and compassion, living a life marked by her dedication to helping others.
As a self-employed individual, she not only made a living but also touched the lives of many through her generous spirit. Audrey was a kind-hearted person, always willing to give to others even when she had little to spare. She had a deep love for the homeless community and made many friends on the streets of Hattiesburg, where her warmth and compassion shone brightly.
Audrey was a proud mother to her two children, Austin and Christopher Hilton, whom she adored. She also leaves behind her siblings, Michael Andrew Wilbur of Hattiesburg, MS, and Shannon Jack (Delena) Wilbur of Brooklyn, MS. In addition, she is survived by numerous aunts including Katherine McCardle Addison of Saucier and Rachel Graves of Collins, as well as a host of cousins: Danny McCardle, Katie McCardle (Kaleb), Beth Graves, Tabitha Watson, and Schuylar Boucher.
Audrey’s educational journey included attending South Forrest Attendance Center and Forrest County AHS, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with creativity and self-expression. She found joy in her hobbies, enjoying artwork, journaling, and spending quality time with family and friends in intimate settings rather than large gatherings. Audrey treasured her alone time, as it allowed her to reflect and cultivate her thoughts.
Though her life was not without regret, she lived authentically, shining a light of love and understanding wherever she went. She is preceded in death by her mother, Audrey Kay Sumlin; father, Melvin Tilton Powell, Jr.; grandmothers, Betty Bass and Bobbie Powell; grandfathers, Melvin Tilton Powell Sr, Louis Bass, Julius Graves; sister, Rhonda Kay Wilbur; and aunt, Joy Boucher.
Audrey Powell’s legacy of love and support for others will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory will inspire those left behind to embrace kindness and compassion in their own lives.
