Anthony (Tony) Usey passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Mr. Usey was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Thrailkill Usey, and his sister, Shirley Puzz. He is survived by his four children, Tina Nicholson, Taye Morphis, Amy Usey and Wade Usey; six grandchildren; and his brother, Bob Usey.
A lifelong resident of Mississippi, Tony was known for his entrepreneurial spirit. He began working as a young child, shining shoes for airmen at Keesler Air Force Base during World War II. He went on to found numerous businesses, including a real estate investment company; a furniture store; a salvage company; and several entertainment businesses. He was also an athlete and played baseball in college. Despite incurring a disabling injury in the Marines, he remained quite active, even winning the Mississippi Senior Olympics trophy for horseshoes in 1994.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 23, 2018 at Noon at St. James Catholic Church on Lorraine-Cowan Road in Gulfport, Mississippi. The graveside ceremony with military honors will be at 2:30 PM at the National Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi.
