Annie Gene Johnson

On July 25, 2023, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Annie “Gene” Johnson, was welcomed into Savior’s waiting arms.

She dedicated her life to teaching, graduating from Sam Houston State College in Huntsville, TX with a degree in education, but her teaching didn’t stop at the classroom. She graciously took on the role of mother in countless peoples’ lives, not just her natural children and loved all with a true heart. With an endearing love of the Lord and passion to show His grace and mercy to others, one could find her involved in all things Mississippi City United Methodist Church. From the food pantry to the choir to the monthly rummage sales, Gene was never-ending in her passion for the Lord and those in need.

Gene was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Bertha Magouirk; husband, Dwight Johnson; and daughter, Melanie Johnson.

She is survived in death by her son, Peder (Jennifer) Johnson; daughters, Marsha Johnson and Julie Christian; honorary daughter, Cindy Foxworth; grandchildren, Natalie Yaquab, Hannah Johnson, Bailey Christian, and Aubrey Christian; granddogs, Abbey, Ollie, Annie, and Ripley; and grandcat, Zoe.

Her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Elaine Tinsley for her endearing friendship and overwhelming love and compassion throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Mississippi City United Methodist Church, 219 Courthouse Road, Gulfport, MS. Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Floral Hills. The family would like to encourage those who plan to attend to wear bright colors in remembrance of her vibrant spirit. Pallbearers will be Tre Dudney, Greg Pietrangelo, Jimmy Christian, and Mike Tinsley.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Mississippi City United Methodist Church or to South Mississippi Methodist Cursillo at 905 Beach Road, Poplarville, MS 39470 in her honor.
