Anne Myer Mathers, born on February 23, 1933, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie P. Myer; mother, Annie Anderson Myer; husband, Raymond M. Mathers, Sr., father-in-law, Nicholas Mathers; mother-in-law, Amelia Mathers; and sisters-in-law, Helen McDonald and Dorothy Meyers.
Anne is survived by her sons, Raymond M. Mathers, Jr. of Beaumont, TX and Richard S. Mathers of Gulfport, MS; and many treasured cousins and close friends.
She had a rich and fulfilling life characterized by her unwavering faith, dedication to her family, and commitment to the citizens of Gulfport and Harrison County.
Anne's education began at Ellisville High School, followed by her studies at the University of Southern Mississippi, culminating in a bachelor's degree from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Her career spanned several important positions, including roles at MS Power Co., Gulf National Bank, Phillips College, and as Harrison County Beat 2 Supervisor for Leroy Urie. She also served as the Mayor's Assistant for Mayor Leroy Urie, contributing significantly to her community.
Anne was known for her many memberships and affiliations, proudly holding a place in the Republican party. She was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church and participated in various organizations, including Phi Mu Sorority, Gulfport Jaycettes, Daughters of the American Revolution, Gulfport Jr. Auxiliary, and Crew of Hera. She was also a founding member of the Bayou Bluff Tennis Club and was involved with the Gulf Coast Carnival Association.
Anne's interests and hobbies brought her joy throughout her life. She loved watching sports with her family and was a fan of the Braves, Saints, and her beloved Ole Miss Rebels. Additionally, she enjoyed playing tennis, painting, and playing bridge.
Anne Mathers was loved and respected by many people from many places, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication to her community that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Visitation will be 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 5007 Lawson Ave, Gulfport, MS and the funeral service will start at 11:00 am.
