Andrew Wellborn Hurt

Andrew Wellborn Hurt, age 62 of Long Beach, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter H. Hurt, III.

Andy is survived by his wife of 12 years, Kim Hurt; his mother, Jewel Hurt Irby; his children, Erin Cooke (Lucas) of Mobile, AL and Cecelia Thomas (Evan) of Gainsville, FL; and his grandchildren, Luke Cooke, Nora Cooke, and Gabriel Cooke.

He was a native of Waynesboro, MS.  He received a bachelor’s in journalism from Ole Miss and a master’s in mass communications from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY.

Andy was employed by USA Today in Washington, DC, where he received many awards in writing.  Upon leaving USA Today, he then moved to the MS Gulf Coast and worked as a Media Director with the Ad Group where he was employed until he passed.

Being an Ole Miss Alum, Andy never missed watching the Rebels play.  He was also a huge Saints fan.  He enjoyed golf and played in many charity events.

Andy enjoyed and loved being with people and was a great friend to many.

Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach, is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Association.

Visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 pm, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Harmony Baptist Church, 5357 Hwy 18 West, Quitman, MS, service will begin at 12:00 and interment will follow at Waynesboro Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS.
