Andrew Chachitz

Andrew (Andy) Chachitz, passed away on November 28, 2014 at the age of 95 in Biloxi of natural causes.
Andy was born in New York City on October 26, 1919. He grew up during the Depression era and these lessons he learned at that time he carried throughout his lifetime. He was a resident of St. Martin for over 20 years.
Andy served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard a patrol boat and participated in the invasion of La Havre, France. He met his wife Barbara of 69 years of marriage in Charleston, SC, where she was a member of SPARS (U.S. Coast Guard-WWII). They moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts after being discharged, his wife's hometown, where he worked and later retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He later moved to Biloxi to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.
Andy will always be remembered as the man who walked the Biloxi beaches everyday with his metal detector. He also enjoyed reading books from the St. Martin Library.
Andy was preceded in death by his father, Elia Chachitz; his mother, Dora Chachitz; his sister, Anna and his brother, Alex.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Carlaw Chachitz; his daughter, Amy Chachitz; his granddaughters, Hollis McKinley, Stacy McKinley Jetton, Heidi Jablanski, and Barbara Jablanski and his great grandchildren, Hunter McKinley, Alexandra Jordan, Hydie Rose Jetton, and Henry Jetton.
Private services will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road in Biloxi, served the family.
