Alice Arlen Tynes Peterman, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Alice lived her entire adult life in the Lyman community of Gulfport. She was born on May 9, 1937 in Stone County, Mississippi to the late Otho Lamar Tynes and Hazel Breland Tynes Szetella.
Alice was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked outside the home with the Harrison County School District and Sam’s Club. Alice was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Lyman. She was loving and kind to all, known to help anyone in need, and a mother figure to so many. Alice “Granny” enjoyed rocking babies, gardening (loved her roses), watching hummingbirds and listening to her wind chimes while swinging on her porch swing. Alice will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Russell Irvin Peterman; her parents; and her siblings, Richard Byrd, Mary Oracoy, and Helen Lippman. She is survived by her loving children, Linda (John) Williams; David Peterman; Gary Peterman; Kenny (Kim) Peterman; John Peterman; and Cindy (Ray) Spiers; 15 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren. Alice also leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of friends and extended family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm at First Baptist Church of Lyman (14321 Old Highway 49, Gulfport). Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm at First Baptist Church of Lyman with burial to follow in Finley Cemetery, Gulfport.
