Alice Gray O’Neal was born on July 17, 1936, in Savanah Georgia, to Margaret V. Gray and Samuel F. Gray.
Alice, age 89, passed away on November 2, 2025 in Columbus Mississippi, where she resided since Hurricane Katrina. Alice’s father was an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, which led Alice and her parents to many places around the East Coast including North Carolina, Washington D.C., Arlington Virginia, and Chevy Chase Maryland. The Gray family eventually settled in Louisiana.
After completing high school in New Orleans, Alice enrolled in Louisiana State University where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She moved to Gulfport, Mississippi in the early 1960’s where she lived for forty-five years. Alice married Oscar S. O’Neal and was a dedicated employee of Riemann Family Funeral Home for fifteen years. Alice was also a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Gulfport and served as President of the Gulfport Yacht Club’s Ladies Auxiliary.
After Hurricane Katrina, Alice moved to Columbus, Mississippi where she settled in a lovely Victorian home on the south side of town. Alice enjoyed tending to her beautiful garden and taking care of her beloved dogs. A devout animal lover, Alice was a dedicated board member of the Lowndes County Humane Society. Alice was also a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Columbus.
Alice O’Neal was preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty-three years, Oscar S. O’Neal. She was also preceded in death by two stepsons, Larry G. O’Neal and Michael S. O’Neal.
Alice is survived by her stepdaughter, Patti O’Neal Cummings (Corky) of San Diego, California, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alice’s memory to the Lowndes County Humane Society, Columbus, Mississippi.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 8910 Carl Legett Rd, Gulfport, MS.
