Alfred Willard ""Al' Geroux passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the age of 83, after a brief illness. Al Geroux was born December 24, 1929 in Old Town, Maine.
He is preceded in death by his parents Noah and Flora Geroux, sisters Florence Furlotte, Josephine Miller, and June Lajoie, and brothers Ernest Geroux of Maine, Evan Geroux of New York and Richard Geroux of Arizona.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy (Burse) Geroux of Diamondhead, MS, daughters, Kathi Geroux Jackson (Jerry) of Diamondhead, MS, Karen Geroux of Pass Christian, MS, Kerry Geroux (Debbie) of Hattiesburg, MS, Kelly Geroux (Cynthia) of Bay St. Louis, MS, and Kris Geroux of Starkville, MS. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lindsay Glaeser (Wes), Sarah Hightower, Matt Geroux, Jonathon Geroux, Courtney and Kaley Geroux and his great grandchildren, Nicholas and Rebecca Geroux.
Mr. Geroux served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he pursued a career as an Avionics Engineer that spanned 42 years starting in 1954 with Bomark Missile and Space Systems, in Bangor, ME. In 1959 he transferred to Orlando, Fl and started working on the early space programs for Martin Marietta. In 1964, he moved to Pass Christian, MS to begin work on the Apollo Program for General Electric Company at the Mississippi Test Facility, now known as the Stennis Space Center. His career continued with Rockwell Space Division and Rockwell Rocketdyne Division during the Space Shuttle Program. He retired from Rocketdyne in 1996.
Mr. Geroux was an amateur radio operator (HAM) and proprietor of Geroux's Television and Radio Repair in Old Town, ME. He was President and Coach of Bay Saint Louis, MS Little League Baseball. After retirement he loved to plan trips and especially enjoyed traveling by train throughout the United States and Canada. He enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing and all outdoor activities. He especially cherished the times he spent in the woods with his beloved Beagles during many great rabbit hunts.
