Alden "Cappy" Hamlin Mann, a distinguished public servant and devoted family man, peacefully passed away on September 8, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi.
A proud graduate of the University of Maine, Alden earned his Bachelor's degree in Business and Finance, laying the foundation for a remarkable career. He served as the Director of the Department of Banking and Securities in Maine, where his leadership and commitment contributed significantly to the financial well-being of the state. His professional integrity and dedication were hallmarks of his tenure, and he was respected by colleagues and constituents alike.
Cappy's commitment to service extended beyond his professional endeavors, as he proudly served as an Air Traffic Control Operator in the United States Marine Corps during the 1950s. This experience not only shaped his character but also instilled in him a lifelong respect for duty and community.
An avid sailor, Alden shared a passion for the sea inspired by his grandfather, "Cappy" who was a ship captain in Maine. He cherished sailing along the beautiful coast of Maine with his beloved wife, Sharyn, and their family. The moments spent on the water were filled with joy and connection, reflecting the love and values that defined his life.
In addition to sailing, Alden had a deep affection for animals, particularly his West Highland White Terriers, Gusto and Bayou, with whom he enjoyed countless playful moments. These dogs brought him joy and companionship, becoming a cherished part of his family life.
Later in retirement, Chappy brought his wife back home to Mississippi enjoying retirement in Diamondhead.
Alden is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Sharyn Mann, and their three sons, Thomas, Andrew, and Daniel Mann. He also leaves behind a close cousin, Stelphen Mann, who was a constant in his life. Alden’s legacy will live on through his family, whose love and respect he earned throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Mann and Alice Roberts, and his sister, Andrian Mann. Their memory remained a guiding force in his life.
A Memorial Service will be held soon at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Diamonhead. His final resting place will be the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta, Maine.
Alden Hamlin Mann will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his commitment to public service, and his enduring love for sailing and animals. His life was a testament to the virtues of hard work, loyalty, and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
