Artina Mallett

August 11, 1966 — February 27, 2022

Moss Point

Artina Lorraine Mallett, was born on Thursday, August 11th, 1966, in Wichita, Kansas, to loving parents David Wayne and Rebecca Jane Marcus.

The first of three children, all daughters. She shared a close bond with her sisters, Dina Danette and Delina . David Marcus was a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, which allowed her to live in several places as a child. These places include Miami and Panama City, Florida and Lubbock, Texas, as a small child, and later Landstul, Germany, as an adolescent, and finally in Vancleave, Mississippi, as a teenager. She shared often that some of her fondest memories were in Panama City, FL.

Vancleave was where she met her future husband, Timothy Milburn Mallett, Sr. They married in 1983 and had five children: Amanda Rebecca, Holly Ann (stillborn), Timothy Milburn, Jr., David Caleb, and Philip Simon Peter Mallett. With Tim’s employment in retail requiring mobility living around the country was a way of life for her. After giving birth to all of her children while living in Long Beach, Mississippi, the family moved to Aiken, South Carolina, where her eldest, Amanda, stayed, married Renard Breland, and gave birth to three granddaughters that would blossom her love as a grandmother, Jazzlyn Rebecca, Brianna Holly, and Gianna Amerie Breland. It was also here that she took on the job of teacher, homeschooling her three boys all the way to graduation with love, immense patience, and importance on including the Christian perspective through the Family Academy of Christian Education. The family moved to Denver, Colorado, where awe-inspiring trips to the Rocky Mountains brought her tremendous joy to see God’s creation. Before long, they moved to Tallahassee, Florida. Then shortly after, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where she volunteered at the Humane Society of Tulsa for a year with her three sons before working for Veterinary Centers of America, with her two oldest sons as a veterinary technician, where her love for animals (cats in particular) shined brightly. It was after this that she experienced her greatest adventure, a two-week-long move to Wasilla, Alaska, by car through the Alaskan Highway, near the brink of winter. It was here where she really took up crocheting to make blankets and scarfs for everyone, a hobby that was dear to her. Sights of four-feet-deep snow and moose in her backyard brought joy, while the endless sunshine in the summer was something she loved, especially with her light-blocking shades drawn in the night. During her first year there, she became a barista for Starbucks inside a grocery store called Fred Meyer’s for a time, a place where all three of her sons eventually worked. Her oldest son, Timothy, would meet his future wife, Kaili Beatriz Robson-Gilbert, at that same Starbucks.

After a few years, the urge to come home grew, so it was decided to try and move back to Mississippi, before a brief year-long stay in Denver, Colorado, as a stepping-stone on the way, where David Caleb met his future-wife, Caitirona Lyn O’Dougherty, giving her three additional granddaughters, Isabellela Courtlyn, Holly Mae Danette, and Caitirona Lyn Mallett. It was back in Mississippi that she felt at home, moving to Hurley. Her youngest son soon met his future-wife there, Colleen Leeann Keating, and they gave her twin granddaughters, Nora Leeann Twila, and Nova Lorraine Iona Mallett. Last year, her oldest granddaughter, Jazzlyn, gave birth to Jaylen Charles Ramirez-Breland, her first boy descendant, a great-grandson. She engaged her entrepreneurial spirit as a consultant for Paparazzi Jewelry and Scentsy, where she built connections with hundreds of people, doing live shows, showing off every piece that she proudly owned herself. Even attaining the rank of “Star Consultant” at Scentsy. Her hobbies beyond needlecraft included reading, drinking coffee, camping, and watching her favorite TV shows.

Her faith in Christ was her foundation. Her cornerstone. As the administrator on the Praying with Purpose Facebook page, she shared countless scriptures and uplifting messages to all who followed it. The devotion she had as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife were second only to her devotion to Jesus Christ, her savior. Tina lived her life with such a happy disposition, in the face of burdens and difficulty with her health. A friend and confidant with a sense of humor to make anyone laugh, she knew just what to say, and when to say it. She was a comfort to so many, and it is our comfort to say that she is with the Lord in Heaven, a place where she can be with her daughter, Holly Ann, her sister Dina, and her father David. Her example will be a guiding light for all she touched; memories of her a gift to be forever cherished until we all meet again.
