Vernon E. Broome, age 89, of Long Beach, went home to be with the Lord on February 19, 2017.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rigsby Broome; his parents, Eugene and Leolar Broome; and his siblings, Dewey Broome, Cleven Broome and Gladys Williamson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Tressie Broome; his children, Carol (John) Pav, Melton (Mari) Broome, Darrell C. Broome, and Mark Broome; a sister, Lessie Mae Cauthen; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Broome was a native of Sumrall, MS and lived most of his life on the coast. He owned and operated a contracting company and he was a member of Michael Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and fishing and he was Past Master of Bouie Lodge # 439 in Sumrall and Past Master of Southern Star Lodge #500 in Long Beach. He was also a member of Gulfport York Rite Bodies and the Joppa Shrine Temple. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by all of them.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 23, 2017, from 9 - 11 am at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach. The funeral service will at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
