Synclaire Shoemaker

d. June 23, 2017

Synclaire Adelaide Shoemaker, age 5, was granted her angel wings on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Children's Hospital of Birmingham. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family and friends that she had touched in tremendous ways during her short, yet memorable life.
Synclaire's life might seem too short for many, but those who knew her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Although her illness made her smaller than most at her age, Synclaire possessed strength, perseverance, and the ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With her courage, she led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.
Whether she was watching her favorite movies while curled under her Peppa blanket, laughing hysterically while Julianna entertained, recording funny videos with Cortney while waiting in the car, or speaking "Panish" with Mom Mom, Synclaire loved to have fun. Her bright smile and contagious laughter could melt the heart of anyone around. She was so very loved. And with her arms spread open wide, she always loved her family "this much."
With Synclaire's passing, we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated. She lived each day to her absolute fullest, and we are so grateful for the impact she has made during her life. Although we will miss her every day, she will forever remain in our hearts.
Synclaire leaves behind many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support during some of the most difficult times. Her love extends to her wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff who helped Synclaire conquer some of her greatest medical challenges. She will be dearly missed at Children's Hospital of Birmingham. All of these special people provided Synclaire with love and dignity in her life and in her death. A special thank you goes to USA Pediatric Cardiology, Dr. Lynn Batten, Dr. McCrary, and Dr. Dimitriades.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Virgil Ballew, Sr.; and paternal grandparents, A.J. and Hermina Shoemaker.
Synclaire is survived by her loving parents Paul and Susan Ballew Shoemaker; her sisters, Cortney Ballew, Zachary Shoemaker, and Julianna Shoemaker; maternal grandmother, Remy Ballew; her aunts and uncles, Virgil (Jeninne) Ballew, Jr., Cathy (Paul) Barshop, Michelle (Greg) Tisdale, Nelson (Janie) Ballew, Karen (Richard) Howell, Kevin (Kim) McGill; and many cousins.
Friends are invited to wear pink to a visitation on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, from 12:00PM - 2:00PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gulfport, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00PM. Burial will follow in Saucier Cemetery.
