SFC Robert Eugene McCardle, age 81, a native of Perry County, MS, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017, at his home in Gulfport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis McCardle and Willie Mae McCardle; his wife of 53 years, Josefine Karen Winkler; and a step-son, Herr Klaus Winkler.
Robert is survived by his daughter, RoseMarie McCardle; step-son, Horst (Rita) Winkler of Nuemberg, Germany; siblings, Gary Lewis McCardle, and Jimmie Lou Fortner, both of Gulfport; step grandchild, Sylvia Winkler Braun of Munich, Germany; step great-grandchild, Sebastian Braun of Brazil; and nephews, Russell Lee Fortner of Gulfport, and Brandon Hill Fortner of Ohio.
Robert was a Sargent First Class in the U.S. Army. He worked as a property manager/tank commander for 26 years. After retiring he worked for civil service as the Property Book Officer for 18 years. Robert was an avid runner and received several awards for his running. He also enjoyed fishing and Nascar.
A Graveside Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Janice Community Center Cemetery in Perry County.
