Rhonda Anne Herring, 65, passed away on July 12 at Canon Hospice in Gulfport. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 29, at noon at New Hope Baptist Church, located at 17430 Landon Rd, Gulfport, MS.
Herring, a native and longtime resident of Gulfport, was born in 1951 and was the second child of the late Gordon and Pearl Herring. She grew up in a loving family, always looking up to her brothers Russell Herring of Waynesboro and Roderick Herring of Pass Christian. She was a graduate of Harrison Central High School and Gulf Park College for Women.
She showed artistic ability and a young age and this talent became her career, as she worked as in illustrator for the Daily Herald and as a civilian illustrator for Keesler Air Force Base for many years. Her career took her to Ramstein and Stuttgart, Germany, where her European travels inspired her work.
She was active in many local art associations and served as president of the Gulf Coast Art Association for two years. She exhibited at local art galleries and festivals. She was also a founding member of the 13th Street Gallery in Gulfport and went on to open her own studio and gallery, Bella Bleu, in Gulfport.
In her retirement, she enjoyed painting, digital illustration, writing books, going to the movies, and dining out with family and friends. She took great joy in her granddaughter Mirabella Mucha, whom she cared for each day. She was a devoted mother to her late son, Warren Cummings, and daughter Cecily Cummings.
Herring loved coffee shops, Jane Austen books, and sci-fi, especially Star Trek. Her family and friends remember her gentle spirit, unique personality, creativity, spirituality, and the hundreds of beautiful works of art she created. She shared a very close bond with her daughter, who will continue her artistic legacy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Pink Heart Funds of Long Beach. The family of Rhonda Herring wishes to thank Dr. Alison Wall and the Cancer Center of Gulfport Memorial Hospital and the team of Canon Hospice for their support.
