Peter Robert Darmohray, Jr., age 73, passed away August 20, 2016 in Gulfport, MS.
Mr. Darmohray was born in Rockville Centre, New York and was a longtime resident of Biloxi.
He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Darmohray, mother: Evelyn Macauley Anderson, sisters, Patricia Darmohray Ehrengruber, Nancy Davis, and Deborah Penner, and a brother, David Anderson.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Darmohray of Biloxi, children, Richard Darmohray and Betty Darmohray, and granddaughter, Danielle Darmohray.
Mr. Darmohray received his Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran where he was a Medical Service Manager (A90299) and retired as a Master Sergeant (E-7) with 20 years honorable service. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, AF Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award w/3 OLC, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 8/OLC, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
He later worked at the Veteran's Health Administration as Regional Emergency Manager where he oversaw emergency management programs for ten medical centers within the VISN 16. He received an ""Operation Desert Storm Victory Commendation"" from the Department of Veterans Affairs for his service from August 1990 - March 1991, and in 1995 was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award by the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS). His department's Patient Reception Plan for moving mass casualties was adopted by the Department of Defense for use in Iraq in 2001. In 2005, he assisted /lead coordination of lifesaver exercises involving nine states, and was recognized by the Department of Defense for his efforts in helping Katrina victims. He retired in January 2008.
Mr. Darmohray was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Rifle Association, and a supporter of Food for the Poor, March of Dimes, Disabled American Veterans, the Humane Society, St. Labre Indian School, Republican committee, American Cancer Society, National Cancer Research, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Mr. Darmohray had a passion for antique automobiles and was an avid supporter of Biloxi High sports. Pete attended every volleyball and softball game his granddaughter Danielle played in.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME in Biloxi where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
