Marjorie Sholes

d. July 24, 2017

Marjorie Ruth Green Sholes, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed peacefully on July 24, 2017, into the arms of her Savior and Lord. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Weier officiating on Saturday August 19, 2017 at 10 a.m. Internment was held at the National Cemetery in Biloxi where she was laid to rest next to her husband.
Marjorie was born in Lake Providence, Louisiana, the second child of Alice Compton Green and Henry Judson Green. She married George Leonard Sholes at the army-air corps base in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in September 1945 and was his devoted and supportive wife until his death in April 2006. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was happiest when she was spending time with family and entertaining relatives. She was a great cook and pie-maker extraordinaire, her specialty being lemon meringue pie, her husband's favorite. She was an expert at homemade pie crust, although she laughed that her first attempt was inedible. She never drove a car, but she acquired a pilot license and soloed on a couple of occasions.
A faithful Christian, Marjorie loved the Lord, spending much of her free time participating in church activities, including making braille bibles with the Dorcas Society, Vacation Bible School, ladies' circle, church yard sales, and potlucks. She also spent time gardening, babying those roses and pulling Dollar Weed!
She is survived by her three children, Diane Hart, William Sholes (Janet), and Douglas Sholes (Susan); her grandchildren, Daniel Gunderson (Diana), Eric Sholes (Jennifer), David Clinton Sholes (Jill), Lindy Sholes Loflin (David), Tyler Sholes (Mary) and Emily Sholes Smith (Joshua). She has 8 great-grandchildren and two on the way, SaraMarie Gunderson, Joshua Gunderson, Parker Sholes, William Sholes, Daelynn Loflin, Porter Loflin, Rebekah Sholes and Joshua Sholes.
Marjorie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years and her dear siblings, her sister, Evelyn Funk, and her brothers, W.J. Green and Hugh Green.
The family wishes to thank the Lakeview Nursing Home for their kind attention and loving care during Marjorie's time there. They have expressed that she was a favorite.
