Lori Carol Weiher, age 54, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017, in Gulfport after a ten-year battle with cancer. She was born in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, grew up in Hudson, MA, relocated to Utah, and eventually moved to Gulfport, MS in 1993.
Lori retired in July of 2005 from the United States Air Force Reserve at Keesler AFB, MS. Upon her retirement Lori continued her education in Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi while serving as a child counselor and a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in Harrison County. Although Lori had a very distinguished career with the Air Force Reserve, her most cherished occupation was that of a loving mother and wife.
Lori was preceded in death by her daughter, Candace Jackson; son, Matthew Jackson; and brother Jerry Benson.
Lori is survived by her husband, Timothy Weiher; daughters, Ashley Hoye and Lindsey Hoye; son, Mitchell Hoye and his wife Emily Hoye; granddaughter, Kayla Moses; mother, Ursula Piechotta; brother, Jim Benson and his wife Debbie Benson; sisters, Elizabeth Searle and Jennifer Ryan; and ten nieces and nephews. However, Lori was also a mother to many more and all those children who encountered her knew not to mess with "Big Mama".
Lori was a strong, independent, and self-reliant woman who never took "no" for an answer. She took immense pride in everything she did. She was always up for an adventure with her family and "The Divas". Always the eternal optimist, she believed there was good in everyone and left a lasting impression on all whose lives she touched. Although she left Massachusetts, you could never take "Boston Proud" from her as she remained a loyal Boston sports fan. She believed that God had a reason for all that happened in her life and she will be truly missed.
The family wishes to extend special gratitude to David Taylor, RN and the staff of Canon Hospice for the compassionate care and support they gave.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, July 13, 2107 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Gulfport, MS.
