Lewis Ashton Tillman Sr., age 87, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Mr. Tillman was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Hattie A. Tillman; two grandchildren, Jeremy Manieri and Tiffany Starkey Hall, and twenty brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gladys W. Tillman; 10 children, Lewis (Shelly) Tillman Jr,., Donald (Shirley) Tillman, Catherine Levitt, David (Lynn) Jenkins, Noel Green, Edward (Lisa) Tillman, Cynthia (Todd) Fuller, Deborah (David) Schmermund, Tina (Mike) Robinson and Jamie (Dennis) Byrnes; a sister, Annie (Chris) Powell; a brother, Butch (Anita) Tillman; and 119 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Lewis was born in Citronelle, Alabama. He was a long time resident of Pass Christian where he graduated from Pass Christian High School. He served in the United States Army under General Eisenhower as a personal bodyguard for Mrs. Eisenhower. He had strong faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses since his baptism in 1948. Lewis was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Pass Christian for 32 years and retired in 1984.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 24, from 11am-1pm at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd., Long Beach, MS. The funeral service will begin at 1pm in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery at Rotten Bayou.
