John Thomas Kubik, age 71 and a resident of Saucier, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, in Gulfport.
Mr. Kubik was born in New Bedford, MA to John Kubik and Beatrice L. Moore Kubik, who preceded him in death.
He leaves behind his most loving companion, Judith I. Rominger; two daughters, Joy Bond (James) of McHenry and Karen L. Kubik of Georgia; his son, John T. Kubik, Jr.; his grandchildren, Lauren, Dylan and Trenton Bond; his sisters, Nancy M. Kubik and Barbara A. Bowman (Wes) of Mattapoisett, MA and several nephews and nieces.
As a young man, he went to work at his father's trucking company in Boston, MA. At age 17, he joined the Navy Seabees in Davisville, R.I. After several deployments, he was stationed at South Weymouth Naval Air Station in Massachusetts for a short period and transferred to Naval Construction Training Center in Gulfport, MS for duty. He served two tours in Vietnam. Nearing retirement he volunteered to spend a year on the frozen continent of Antarctica in support of the National Science Foundation, his most rewarding and memorable tour of duty. Leaving the ice, he transferred to Naval Construction Training Command assuming the position as Chief Petty Officer in charge of transportation and maintenance of equipment. Mr. Kubik retired after 23 years of service as a chief equipment officer.
He then went to work for Blossman Gas Co. as a salesman. He completely retired after 14 years and began touring the United States with Judith.
One of Mr. Kubik's final requests before passing was to inform everyone able to attend his service, to please dress as casual as you will be comfortable.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014, at 12:30pm at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
