Jay Butler Teasdel, age 91 of Biloxi, passed away on Tuesday 21 February 2017.
Jay was born in Berkeley, California, and graduated from High School in New Orleans before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines overseeing War Crime Trials. After the war he went to the University of California and to Stanford, after which he began his adventurous entrepreneurial career as a cattle rancher in Louisiana. Later he moved to New Orleans where he enjoyed multi-faceted business pursuits, culminating in a fleet of offshore barges supplying oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. His sailing adventures in the Bahamas with his first wife Patricia and their 3 young children prepared him for the project of building a 54' ketch in Belize which he sailed across the Atlantic. His other interests included playing flamenco guitar and writing a number of books. He wrote about a series of 85 long walks in various parts of the world with his second wife Angela and spent long periods of time traveling in Spain and England with her.
He was a member of the Society of American Magicians. He enjoyed life to the full, including residence in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Into his later years he enjoyed scull rowing on the Tchoutacabouffa River where he lived. He will be sadly missed by his many much loved friends and family.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 38 years, Angela, his son Bret, his son Brian, daughter-in-law Kim, granddaughter Victoria, his daughter Kit and her husband Morgan, his sister Beulah Jean Lang, and "the good dog".
In keeping with Jay's wishes there will be a private celebration of Jay's life and scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.
