Edward Urias (age 65), a resident of Mobile, passed away on May 25th at the Biloxi VA Medical Center surrounded by his family. Mr. Urias was preceded in death by his parents Soilo Sostenes and Francis Gabriella Urias, his sister Diana, and his adopted son Charles. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Joanne, his children Robert and Jennifer, and his grandson Zachary. Also by his siblings Mary, Micaela, Soilo Jr, Harry, Alicia, and Patricia.
Mr. Urias was born in Newton, Iowa and chose to move to Denver, Colorado in 1976 to raise his family. He moved to Mobile, Alabama in 2010 where he assisted his son in starting up an extermination company.
Mr. Urias served in the Marines in the Da Nang region of Vietnam from 1969-1970 driving supply trucks to and around small villages. Following his service, he worked as a truck driver for several companies as well for the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Later in his career, Mr. Urias worked as a building maintenance engineer in the hotel and multifamily industries in Denver caring for some of the beautiful high rise buildings that make up the Denver skyline. Mr. Urias received many accolades during his career including Manager of the Quarter and Manager of the Year from The Holiday Inn Denver Downtown.
Dedication to family and to children is what made Edward Urias a man who made a difference in so many people's lives. He was an amazing father who worked diligently and sacrificed his own needs for his children. Mr. Urias coached many little league teams for his children and his grandson as well as many adult softball teams. For several years, Mr. Urias along with his wife ran an annual holiday charity in the North Denver Area called Santa's Workshop which provided Christmas presents to children in need.
