Don Herring

d. April 16, 2015

Early Thursday morning on the sixteenth of April, 2015, Don Herring left his earthly body to take his place in the Kingdom of Heaven. Oh how Heaven must be rejoicing to welcome one the most beautiful souls ever created by our Lord. He passed peacefully at his home in the Kiln at the age of 69 surrounded by his family. His parents, Doyle and Ruth Herring, preceded him in this journey of life and what a celebration it must have been to be reunited at the gates of Heaven. Many survivors remain to celebrate his life to include his dedicated wife, Charlotte Herring, who because of him is known to all as ""Char"". He is also survived by his children to include Don Anthony Herring, Scott (Ashley) Herring, Michelle (Tim) Behrendt, Marty (Carley) Grimes, and Lacey (Drew) Osbourn; his grandchildren, Richard and Celene Herring, Cameron and Madison Behrendt, Kathleen and Alyssa Herring, Bailey Grimes and Andrew and Alexis Osbourn, his brother Doyle (Karen) Herring and sister Barbara (Dayne Tom) Thompson.
Poppa Don or Popel was born in 1945 on the eleventh of December in Vidor, Texas. The world did not realize what a blessing it had received or the impact he would have on so many. This man was truly one of a kind. He was the most devoted, loving, and ever-selfless husband, father, grandfather, cousin, son, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor. Throughout his thirty-nine year career as an electrician, he managed to work on the original World Trade Centers, the initial creation of Disney World, and endless businesses and residences across the coast. For those of you who have worked with him and for him, you know these jobs were only considered complete once perfection was met. He was a member of the Local 903 Electrical Union from the very beginning of his career and what great pride he took in this union and how highly he thought of the guys he worked with every day.
He had a sensational spirit that no one could match. Just think of his jitter-bug and what life he brought to any dance floor. Remember how his smile got bigger and bigger from one beat to the next. Remember his signature look, those blue jeans, that old brown belt with a tucked in pocket t-shirt and of course a ball cap. Remember his endless courage and strength. He overcame more obstacles and endured more than anyone could imagine. He left no day wasted, no garden without tending, no fish without frying, no ball game without fussing, no job without figuring, no dance floor not danced, and no path crossed left un-touched!
Many life tributes identify the cause of life's end. Today, however, it should be known that this man showed cancer who was in charge! With five cancer diagnoses under his belt, he is the ideal role model for the fight and will to live! When he was diagnosed over eleven years ago, he always said that cancer would not get the best of him. No surprise, he kept his word to the very end! We love you Dad and are ever so thankful for each and every moment we had with you here on earth! Until we meet again...
