Chong OK "Oggie" Martin

d. August 19, 2016

Chong Ok (Oggie) Martin, 78, passed away to be by the side of her Lord Savior Jesus Christ with her family and friends near her side on Aug. 19, 2016, at her home in Vancleave, MS.
Born in 1938 in Pohang, South Korea, Chong made the United States her home in 1971 where she started her studies to become a U.S. citizen. She accomplished this task in 1982.
Oggie served as a cook and food service worker throughout her life, bringing joy and full stomachs to all she met with her special brand of Korean, American and Mexican dishes that she lovingly labored over. The food she lovingly-prepared will be missed greatly by all who experienced her extraordinary cooking.
Until the time of her illness, Chong was a faithful member of Cedar Lake Christian Assembly. And, throughout her long, tiring illness, she remained a faithful, trusting servant of the Lord. Everyone who knew Oggie quickly realized she was a woman with a servant's heart.
Chong was preceded in death by her father, Mun Su Om, and her mother, Pak Song Che. She is survived by her husband Robert, son Eddie (Rachel) Espinoza, daughter Susan (Gary) Powell of Jonesboro, AR. and son Ernest (Lisa LeBlanc) Espinoza as well as her grandchildren, Tyler Maddox (Andrea), David Gossett, Evan Espinoza, Talon Powell and Emma Espinoza.
A special thanks to Oggie's longtime companion and caregiver, Tiffany Pace, who demonstrated so much patience, love and compassion over the last five years of her illness. And the family sends their deepest appreciation to Notre Dame Hospice and two very special people, Paul Cook and Lisa Bissett. Their kind and gentle service over the final six months of Oggie's life were not only a comfort to Oggie, but to her husband and caregiver as well. Words can hardly express our gratitude for the compassion they had for our loved one. The family also wishes to thank her longtime physician, Dr. Yashashree Bethala and her staff for the years of loving care provided to Chong and her husband.
Visitation will be at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, located at 13872 Lemoyne Blvd, at the corner of Washington Ave., Ocean Springs, on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with her service immediately following. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Ocean Springs.
