Bedford Forest Burkeen, age 81, of Long Beach and formerly of Pheba, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015.
Mr. Burkeen was born to Ernest and Elsie Mae Holyfield Burkeen. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service to his country and later received his Master's Degree from Mississippi State University in Agronomy and Horticulture. He retired from MSU after 10 years as Greenhouse Manager. He enjoyed spending his spare time with his wife rock hunting and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Margaret Jones Burkeen, also a USAF veteran; his parents; his son, James Bedford Burkeen, an Army veteran; his brothers, Chester and Joe Burkeen.
Mr. Burkeen is survived by his children, Nora Brown of Fulton, Bernice Burkeen of Long Beach, Dr. Margaret Pope of Aberdeen, and Nathan Burkeen of Hollandale; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Private services with full military honors will be held at a later date at Pheba Cemetery.
